Have you ever thought about starting a company?

On Monday 3 August 2015, Cambridge Enterprise and EPOC are launching a new business creation competition for postdocs of the University of Cambridge, a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a passion for entrepreneurship and an idea to explore. Commencing this summer, the competition offers the chance for University postdocs to win early funding for their business idea, with prizes of £15k and £7.5k for the first and second places respectively.

With the support and advice of Cambridge Enterprise, Professor Chris Abell, Dr Oren Scherman, Jing Zhang and I created Aqdot Limited, a rapidly growing chemical company specialising in intelligent encapsulation technologies. Three years ago I was a postdoc in the Department of Chemistry with an interest in entrepreneurship. Funding from Cambridge Enterprise helped us make our company a reality.

After the first selection round, the semi-finalists will receive high-level mentoring from Cambridge Enterprise's network of business experts to improve their plans. Selected finalists will then pitch their ideas to the judges at the Grand Finale on Thursday 3 December 2015, where the two winners will be selected.

Applications will open on Monday 3 August. To register your interest, please email to be added to our dedicated mailing list or to ask any questions. Full details will be available from Monday 3 August on the Cambridge Enterprise website.
